The Institute for Metal Forming Technology (IFU) was established in the winter semester of 1958/59 and since has been one of the manufacturing technology institutes at the University of Stuttgart. The institute deals with research projects and development work in the follwing research lines:

• Sheet Metal Forming and Cutting Processes
• Forging Technology
• Semi-solid Forming
• Material Characterisation and Modelling

with special focus on:

• ligthweight construction
• FEM simulation
• further development of forming processes
• component & process analysis
• IoT in series production
• forming tools
• materials
