Kurt-Ilse-Lange Foundation

The "KURT and ILSE LANGE FOUNDATION" aims to intensify manufacturing technology research and development at the University of Stuttgart by supporting young engineering students and scientists.

The "KURT und ILSE LANGE STIFTUNG" aims to intensify manufacturing technology research and development at the University of Stuttgart by supporting students and young scientists in engineering. It sees this as an essential task for maintaining or increasing the standard of living in the Federal Republic of Germany. The support applies to both domestic and international students and doctoral candidates.

The award is presented either at the annual international forming technology conference (IFU/FGU) or at colloquia and other events organized by the Institute for Machine Tools (IFW). In recent years, the recipients of the award, which is endowed with €1,000, included

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h. c. Kurt Lange

In March 1963, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h. c. Kurt Lange took over the chair and the Institute for Metal Forming Technology. This was followed by a rapid expansion of the institute, both in terms of personnel and experimental facilities. In the summer of 1964, the institute, which had previously been cramped and provisionally housed at Keplerstraße 17, moved to the new building at Holzgartenstraße 17. In addition to intensive research into forming technology processes, Prof. Lange very early on dedicated himself to the computational simulation of forming processes. This objective was accompanied by fundamental research in plasticity theory, materials science, and tribology. Prof. Lange led the Institute for Forming Technology from March 1963 to July 1988. Numerous publications, as well as the publication of several textbooks and specialist books, particularly the four-volume work "Umformtechnik" - Handbook for Industry and Science published by Springer Verlag and the "Handbook of Metal Forming" published in the USA, document Prof. Lange's 25-year academic career. Prof. Lange represented and promoted the IFU Stuttgart at national and international conferences, lectures, and congresses. Prof. Lange passed away on August 1, 2009, at the age of 89.
